Overview

The Fabric Data Engineer is responsible for the administration and governance of the Microsoft Fabric platform and the Enterprise Data Platform. This role ensures that the dealership's data infrastructure is optimized to deliver timely, actionable insights that drive business outcomes. By managing and governing the platform, the Fabric Data Engineer enables faster decision-making, enhances operational efficiency, and supports the dealership’s digital transformation initiatives.

Basic Duties

Key Initial Responsibilities:

  1. Platform Administration (25%):
    • Provision and manage Microsoft Fabric resources such as data lakes, warehouses, and real-time analytics services.
    • Optimize platform performance, scalability, and cost-efficiency through proactive monitoring and tuning.
    • Implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices using Terraform to automate deployment and configuration of Fabric components.
  2. Data Governance (20%):
    • Define and enforce data governance policies, including data quality, lineage, and metadata standards.
    • Establish role-based access controls (RBAC) and data classification frameworks to ensure secure and compliant data usage.
    • Collaborate with compliance and security teams to align governance practices with regulatory requirements.
  3. Data Integration (15%):
    • Design and implement robust data pipelines using Microsoft Fabric tools (e.g., Data Factory, Synapse Pipelines).
    • Integrate data from diverse sources into centralized repositories for analytics and reporting.
    • Ensure data transformations are efficient, traceable, and aligned with business logic.
  4. Stakeholder Collaboration (15%):
    • Work closely with business users, data analysts, and data scientists to understand their data needs.
    • Ensure the platform supports their workflows and provides the necessary data for insights and decision-making.
    • Provide technical guidance and support for data-related projects and initiatives.
  5. Monitoring and Optimization (10%):
    • Work closely with business users, data analysts, and data scientists to understand their data needs.

  6. Security and Compliance (10%):
    • Implement security best practices, including encryption, role-based access control (RBAC), and network security.
    • Ensure the platform adheres to dealership security policies and complies with relevant data protection regulations.
    • Conduct regular security audits and address vulnerabilities promptly.
  7. BI Community Development, Documentation and Training (10%):
    • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation of the platform’s architecture, processes, and configurations.
    • Develop training materials and provide training sessions to dealership staff on platform usage and best practices.
    • Ensure knowledge transfer and adoption of the platform across the organization

Qualifications

Skills and Experience Desired:

  • Deep understanding of Microsoft Fabric and its components (e.g., Data Factory, Synapse Analytics, Power BI).
  • Strong experience in data engineering, including ETL processes, data warehousing, and data integration.
  • Proficiency in data governance principles, including data quality, metadata management, and compliance.
  • Familiarity with Azure services (e.g., Azure Data Lake, Azure Synapse, Azure Security features).
  • Proficiency in SQL and experience with programming languages such as Python or Scala for data processing.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license with clean driving record. This includes no more than 2 minor violations within the past 3 years and no major violations within the past 5 years (Motor Vehicle Report will be performed on final candidate).

This role is essential for ensuring the dealership's digital tools are optimized and performing efficiently, ultimately driving operational success and customer satisfaction.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:

This position will primarily works in an office environment, May, on a continuous basis, sit at desk for a long period of time; intermittently answer telephone and write or use a keyboard to communicate through written means. Must be able to walk, bend, lift up to 20 lbs. Some travel is required.
