Full-time, Monday through Friday. Standard business hours with additional hours as required to fulfill job responsibilities.

Overview

The Manager of Engineering will provide strategic leadership and oversight to a multidisciplinary team of mechanical and electrical engineers. This role is responsible for delivering Caterpillar dealer solutions for electric power and industrial engine products, ensuring high-quality engineering support for projects in critical infrastructure environments such as data centers, hospitals, and other emergency standby applications. The position oversees all engineering efforts within the Packaging division, which manufactures engine-generator controls, enclosures, fuel tanks, and related components. Direct reports include engineering supervisors and other engineering personnel, with an overall team size of approximately 7 staff members.

 

Basic Duties

Team Leadership & Development

  • Provide vision, direction, and day-to-day leadership for a multidisciplinary team of mechanical and electrical engineers.
  • Recruit, mentor, and develop engineering staff to build a high-performing, collaborative, and results-oriented organization.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, safety, and innovation.

Engineering Execution & Technical Oversight

  • Serve as a working manager with the ability to contribute directly to design and drafting efforts using AutoCAD and Inventor, including creating or updating 2D/3D drawings and models as needed.
  • Oversee engineering support for the design and delivery of generator set packaging solutions used in critical infrastructure applications.
  • Ensure engineering deliverables align with project timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
  • Apply risk management practices and technical problem-solving to ensure successful engineering execution.
  • Guide engineering efforts to ensure compliance with industry standards, codes, and regulations.
  • Lead technical reviews and design evaluations to ensure performance, safety, and reliability of engineered systems.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (e.g., manufacturing, procurement, quality, sales) to align engineering outputs with operational and business needs.

Stakeholder & Customer Engagement

  • Serve as a key point of contact for internal and external stakeholders, including Caterpillar dealers, end customers, suppliers, and other partners.
  • Communicate technical requirements and engineering updates effectively to diverse audiences.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships, managing expectations and ensuring customer satisfaction.

Strategic Planning & Continuous Improvement

  • Support long-term strategic planning by identifying emerging technologies and market trends relevant to electric power and industrial engine systems.
  • Develop and implement processes that enhance engineering productivity, product quality, and innovation.
  • Champion best practices in engineering design, documentation, and operational efficiency.

Qualifications

  1. Education & Experience
    • Proven experience (7+ years) in engineering, including at least 3 years in a leadership capacity.
    • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  2. Technical & Managerial Skills
    • Solid understanding of mechanical and electrical systems, including power generation and industrial engine applications.
    • Experience with UL, NFPA, CSA, and other regulatory agencies.
    • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
  3. Behavioral Competencies

Payrate: $80,000 - $125,000 annually

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

Work is normally performed both indoors and outdoors with moderate noise conditions. Limited exposure to all weather conditions is associated with this position. Physical requirements may include speaking, listening, writing, typing, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, carrying, sitting for extended periods, and managing stress. Occasionally required to walk or stand for short durations on manufacturing floors or job sites. Job hazards may include tripping, slipping, falling, jobsite hazards, hand injuries, driving related hazards, equipment movement, overexertion due to stress and fatigue. Required to follow all safety protocols and wear appropriate personal protective equipment depending on the environment or location. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high. Noise level in the office environment is usually moderate to low. Must be flexible to work varying schedules and hours as needed.
