Overview

The General Manager of Packaging provides strategic and operational leadership for all functions involved in building and refurbishing generatorset packages and other power products. Reporting to the Vice President of Power Systems, this role is responsible for Vendor & Supply Chain management, Logistics (including Parts), Quality Assurance, and Manufacturing Shop Production. The position directs a multidisciplinary leadership teamProduction Manager, Supply Chain Manager, Quality Assurance Manager, Office Manager, and Logistics Manager—to deliver safe, ontime, costeffective, and highquality products that meet customer and Caterpillar dealer requirements. You will shape the future of our Packaging division, steering a talented team to expand capacity, enhance quality, and delight customers in criticalpower markets. Basic Duties

  1. Business & Operational Leadership
  • Set the vision, annual objectives, and key performance indicators (KPIs) for production, quality, supply chain, logistics, and parts.
  • Drive P&L performance, budgeting, and cost control for the Packaging division.
  • Champion a culture of safety, continuous improvement, and customer focus across all departments.
  1. Vendor & Supply Chain Management
  • Develop and execute sourcing strategies that ensure reliable, cost‑effective supply of all components and raw materials needed for production.
  • Work with supply chain manager to negotiate supplier contracts, monitor vendor performance, and mitigate supply‑chain risks.
  • Optimize inventory levels and material flow using data‑driven forecasting and ERP/MRP tools.
  1. Manufacturing Shop Production
  • Work with Production Manager to oversee production scheduling, resource allocation, and workflow to meet delivery commitments.
  • Implement methodologies to improve throughput, reduce waste, and enhance ergonomics and safety.
  • Collaborate with Engineering and Sales to introduce new products and incorporate design changes efficiently.
  1. Quality Assurance & Compliance
  • Ensure products meet or exceed ISO, UL, NFPA, and internal quality standards.
  • Work with Quality Assurance Manager to ensure root‑cause analyses and corrective actions are implemented to achieve zero‑defect goals.
  • Work with Divisional Technical and Compliance Manager to maintain audit readiness and regulatory compliance for safety, environmental, and industry codes.
  1. Logistics & Parts Management
  • Work with Logistics Manager to direct inbound/outbound logistics, warehouse operations, and parts distribution to support production and aftermarket needs.
  • Optimize freight, routing, and third‑party logistics (3PL) partnerships to balance cost and service.
  • Work with Logistics and Parts Managers to ensure proper parts stocking, inventory control, and parts pricing and availability are aligned with customer support objectives.
  1. People Leadership & Development
  • Recruit, coach, and develop a high‑performing leadership bench; promote cross‑functional collaboration and teamwork.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews, succession planning, and talent development initiatives.
  • Model servant leadership, accountability, and a bias for action.
  1. Strategic Planning & Continuous Improvement
  • Contribute to division‑level strategic planning—market analysis, capacity planning, make/buy decisions, and capital investments.
  • Lead continuous‑improvement projects that enhance quality, delivery, and cost metrics.
  • Leverage data analytics to inform decision‑making and drive operational excellence.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Operations Management, Industrial Engineering, Supply Chain, Business, or related field; MBA or advanced technical degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in manufacturing, generator set packaging, or heavy‑equipment assembly, with at least 5 years managing multiple functional areas (production, supply chain, quality, logistics).
  • Demonstrated success delivering complex, capital equipment or power‑generation products to industrial customers.

Technical & Managerial Skills

  • Expertise in Lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, and continuous‑improvement methodologies.
  • Strong knowledge of ERP/MRP systems, demand planning, and cost accounting.
  • Proven contract‑negotiation skills and familiarity with global supply‑chain best practices.
  • Solid understanding of electrical/mechanical power products, generator sets, or related equipment.
  • Exceptional budgeting, analytical, and project‑management capabilities.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

Work is normally performed both indoors and outdoors with moderate noise conditions. Limited exposure to all weather conditions is associated with this position. Physical requirements may include speaking, listening, writing, typing, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, carrying, sitting for extended periods, and managing stress. Occasionally required to walk or stand for short durations on manufacturing floors or job sites. Job hazards may include tripping, slipping, falling, jobsite hazards, hand injuries, driving related hazards, equipment movement, overexertion due to stress and fatigue. Required to follow all safety protocols and wear appropriate personal protective equipment depending on the environment or location. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high. Noise level in the office environment is usually moderate to low. Must be flexible to work varying schedules and hours as needed.
