Altorfer Rents Sales Academy

 

Time Frame approx.18-24 months

 

Position Goal

Working under the guidance of the Rental Sales Manager the employee will train & learn all aspects of the rental business via rotational assignments, including counter sales, outside sales, service department, yard maintenance, parts counter, etc. with the goal of developing into a Sales Representative position. Altorfer will provide the appropriate resources to ensure the employee can develop into a sales position, and in return, the employee will demonstrate a commitment to his/her future by seizing every learning opportunity made available.

 

Basic Duties

Summary of Responsibilities:

 

The employee will work under the guidance of the Sales Manager and rotational supervisor to ensure daily and monthly training goals are met and assist with the sales/rental process in various aspects of the rotation.

Counter Sales

  • Answer calls and questions that customers have, while providing excellent customer service to all customers as measured by Altorfer phone skills assessment program.
  • Assist customers with sales and rental equipment needs.
  • Develop an understanding of rental product line (CAT & allied equip), product application and be able to articulate product issues as well as propose solutions and add-on suggestions.  
  • Assist with ordering supplies, selling supply items and responsible for re-stocking supply items.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Outside Sales

  • Expand upon understanding of rental product line (CAT & allied equip).
  • Learn construction phases to properly advise applications.
  • Strengthen knowledge of entire rental fleet and learn to be able to demonstrate equipment whenever appropriate to increase customer awareness of product offerings and product applications.
  • Make sales lead calls under the direction of Sales Manager or senior member of the sales team.
  • Help prepare sales presentations, reports, and sales quotes.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Service Department

  • Learn “common” equipment failure problems and how to resolve them.
  • Assist with opening and closing work orders for rental technicians.
  • Learn Safety Requirements
  • Other duties as assigned

Yard Maintenance

  • Learn proper safety procedures for utilizing Forklift or pallet jack while achieving certification for safe operation.
  • Help load and unload equipment when needed.
  • Track all shipping and receiving of equipment within the yard
  • Scan and take pictures of all rental equipment before delivery and return processes as well as maintaining associated paperwork.
  • Assist with upkeep of the yard, making sure it’s a safe environment at all times for employees and customers.
  • Other duties as assigned

Parts Counter

  • Assist customers with parts sales needs.
  • Work directly with shop technicians and process work orders.
  • Help order and maintain parts for repair of rental machines and customer sales.
  • Provide excellent customer service to all customers (internal & external).
  • Other duties as assigned.

Operations

  • Assist Store Coordinator or Store Manager with opening & closing procedures.
  • Help follow up on all overdue rental contracts.
  • Notify customer immediately if there are any delivery delays.
  • Ensure counter and show room floor area are to be kept clean and orderly.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Training Snapshot:

  • The employee will be expected to contribute to the rental business’ objectives, with emphasis on developing skills and experience in objective setting, product knowledge, deadline responsibility, and follow-up methods.
  • The employee will receive guidance and direction on projects from their on-site manager as well as their Sales Manager.
  • On a monthly basis, the employee will meet with Sales Manager to review:
  • Reciprocal accountability for development plan progress
  • Discussion on what was learned and not learned.
  • Discussion on upcoming learning plan

Qualifications

 

Qualifications/Traits:

  • Associates Degree or Bachelor’s Degree in Sales, Marketing, Business, or a related field.
  • A strong desire to learn and grow with Altorfer Rents.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to interact with diverse groups.
  • Excellent customer service and relationship building skills.
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Must be result oriented with ability to influence others.
  • Strong work ethic, coachability, and accountability.
  • Creative problem-solving/strategic thinking.
  • Some travel (up to 25%) between locations will be required for this position in order to train in all areas of the rental business.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license with clean driving record. This includes no more than 2 minor violations within the past 3 years and no major violations within the past 5 years (Motor Vehicle Report will be performed on final candidate).

 

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

This position works in an office, field and Warehouse environment. May, on a continuous basis, sit at desk for a long period of time; intermittently answer telephone and write or use a keyboard to communicate through written means. May, on a continuous basis be out in the warehouse to pick inventory or to re-stock inventory. Walking, climb, squat, twist (general range of motion movements) and potentially lifting 50lbs. may be required. The noise level in the office environment is usually moderate to low and the noise level in the warehouse is usually moderate to high. Must be flexible to work varying schedules and hours as needed. Occasional travel is required, 25% of travel is needed on occasion. The physical demands described above are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
